I recently had dinner with a fellow foodie who was asking me where I purchased my spices. When I answered The Spice House, I was amazed to find out that he had never heard of it before.  I thought everybody knew about this place! I guess one should never assume, so I figured I better get the word out in case anyone else wasn’t familiar with this gem.

I’ve been buying spices from their Old Town location since it opened in the Summer of 2000 and have subsequently been to four of their five locations.  The variety of their products are unsurpassed and while they nail all the basics, their seasoning blends are what really sets them apart.  Some of my favorites include:

Greektown “Billygoat” Seasoning – a staple in my kitchen and amazing with chicken and fish

Back of the Yards Garlic Pepper Butcher’s Rub – great on steak, vegetables and burgers

Milwaukee Avenue Spice, Steak Seasoning – ideal for beef and pork

Argyle Street Asian Blend - perfect for stir-fry, fish and vegetables

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that The Spice House will make you a better cook!  They also have a great selection of themed gift boxes that are perfect for anyone who has a kitchen.
