Mango Salsa

March 26th, 2010 · 8 Comments · Appetizer, COOK, Dip

One of my favorite snacks is chips and salsa – actually, to be honest, I could probably do without the chips and just go for the salsa!  In the past I’ve always preferred tomato or tomatillo-based salsas and never really paid much attention to other varieties – until recently.  I was shopping at Whole Foods and came across a mango salsa that looked fantastic.  I was particularly intrigued because it contained jalapenos and I love spicy food and thought this would be an interesting contrast to the sweetness of the mango.  I’m so happy I bought the salsa – it was amazing and completely transformed my impression of non-tomato based salsas. This recipe is my attempt at recreating the delicious salsa that I purchased.  I was pleased with the outcome and hope you are also!

What are your favorite types of salsa?

Ingredients

  • 2 mangoes, diced (1/4-inch)
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup minced red onion
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons fresh, chopped cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced (optional)
  • salt, to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions

In a medium bowl combine the mango, lime juice, onion, cilantro and jalapeno. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.  Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

This looks so wholesome. I think I saw this photo somewhere this morning, and I wanted fresh manog for breakfast-yum!

I went through the recipe and the preparation of this salsa and I think that this is a simple recipe yet you will be satisfied on the outcome. I am imagining the fusion of the ingredient once they are mixed together, SWEET, SOUR, SALTY. Perfect!

Thank you for sharing your Mango Salsa. I love it!

I would be quite happy to sit down with a spoon and a bowl of this salsa, and snack to my heart’s content. This would be great over fish or chicken, too.

WF mango salsa is a favorite, love this recipe!
A must try this weekend with grilled chicken :)
You could also add some avocado to the mix for another great combo…

Thank you! Yes, avocado would be a great addition – good idea!

I’m the same way when I eat chips and salsa; I put as much salsa as possible onto each chip. If I’ve got it, I sometimes just use celery in place of the chips. Yum!

I can’t wait to try this in the summer!
